Future Publishing CFO Byng-Maddick steps up to CEO

Zillah Byng-Maddick promoted to CEO of Future Publishing, replacing Mark Wood

FUTURE PUBLISHING has promoted chief financial officer Zillah Byng-Maddick to CEO, after Mark Wood quit the publishing company just a month after issuing a profit warning.

Byng-Maddick joined Future, the publisher of T3, Edge and Total Film, as CFO in October last year from Auto Trader publisher Trader Media Group, after incumbent Graham Harding left to “pursue other career opportunities”.

Future has also appointed Simon Poulton as interim CFO. He will not join the plc board but will report directly to Byng-Maddick. All changes take effect from 1 April 2014, the company said.

During Wood’s tenure Future moved its focus away from magazine into digital titles, with digital revenues growing 33% in the last financial year.

“Zillah has a proven track record in delivering successful digital transition. And she is the perfect candidate to accelerate the business through its next phase, with a clear focus on right-sizing the organisation and improving margins for the long term,” said Future chairman Peter Allen.

Byng-Maddick served as Trader Media Group CFO from 2009 to 2012, while she served as interim CEO from 2012 to 2013.
