THE FRC has today appointed Mark Babington as its deputy director of audit policy.

The audit and accounting watchdog said Babington will also undertake and commission research on matters of relevance to audit and other assurance engagements, and play a key role in “enhancing work facilitating audit quality and strengthening public confidence in audit”.

Babington has amassed over 20 years of experience in auditing and accounting practice within the public, parliamentary and the not-for- profit sectors.

He joins the FRC from the National Audit Office, where, as director, HMRC financial audit and strategy, he led the audit and wider client services team during a period of significant organisational change. Babington was also responsible for strategy development and implementation for the NAO’s work covering HMRC.

Grabowski said of the appointment: “His extensive career as an auditor in a broad number of sectors and more recently with the National Audit Office provides an excellent basis for his new role in standard setting, influencing and research which is vital to our role as a regulator and our mission to foster investment.”
