KPMG partner joins BP board

Former partner to replace Douglas Flint on audit committee

A FORMER KPMG partner has been chosen to lead BP’s audit committee, replacing HSBC finance director Douglas Flint who steps down next year.

Brendan Nelson (pictured), a former vice president of the UK KPMG board, will become chairman of the BP Board after the annual general meeting next year.

Brendan NelsonHe was also chairman of KPMG’s Financial Services practice and is a non-executive director of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc where he is chairman of the Group Audit Committee.

He will join fellow appointee Frank L. “Skip” Bowman, a former Admiral in the US navy, who will join BP as a non-executive director.

Carl-Henric Svanberg, chairman of BP, said Nelson brought vast financial and auditing experience to the Board and to the audit committee.

“I am delighted to announce these two important appointments. The Board has a clear task in ensuring that the company can deliver long term value for its shareholders. To do this we have to have the confidence of the countries and communities in which we work. The tragic events of 20th April and their aftermath demonstrate the challenge ahead and the skills which Skip and Brendan bring will aid us in this task,” he said.
