Eidos appoints finance director

After months of searching and operating without a finance director, Eidos today finally announced the appointment of Stuart Cruickshank.

Cruickshank was picked from ‘a number of candidates’ due to his broad commercial and financial experience in the retail and consumer industries, according to a company spokesman. The deal was finalised last night.

The CIMA-qualified accountant will take up his post at Eidos on 3 September. He joins the computer games company from Kingfisher, where he was FD of Woolworths.

Prior to working at Kingfisher, Cruickshank was at United Biscuits. He also worked in vaious finance roles at Grand Metropolitan and Whitbread. Cruisckshank began his career as a trainee accountant with Kelloggs.

Eidos has been operating without an FD since Jeremy Lewis left the company in October 2000, as merger talks with French rival Infogrames Entertainment collapsed. The company is now planning a £51.7m rights issue.

It had been suggested that Eidos was struggling to find an FD because the management has lost the confidence of bankers and the market, a charge the company vehemently denied.

Chief executive officer Mike McGarvey said Cruickshank was joining the group at an important stage as the video games industry enters an expected growth phase on the back of the launch of next generation games consoles.
