Business trip abroad? Got the tickets, passport, money … kidnap insurance? Going to the likes of South Africa and the former Soviet Union is becoming more and more dangerous – according to insurance brokers Alexander & Alexander. They are now offering companies #1m of cover for a mere #5000 – a fact likely to make FDs splutter over their morning coffee.
But the prevalence of faked kidnappings has limited the market in ransom insurance. Insurers will only reimburse against actual documented payments – the FD must prove that one of his colleagues has actually gone missing.
Alternatively the money might just be better spent hiring a bullet-proof Zil – complete with ex-Spetsnaz bodyguards.
