Allner quits his pig job

Andrew Allner, finance director of pig genetics company PIC, has announced his departure. He will be replaced by Sabrina Simmons. Allner, who earned around £300,000 last year, has plenty of high-level experience, having been FD at Dalgety, Guinness and Nycomed Amersham. Simmons has been at PIC since January last year, having previously worked at Levi Strauss.

David Munns is taking over the finance director role at the FT Newspaper group. He has been corporate controller at the group since July.

Harry Sleet has moved to online business altodigital.com as FD. Sleet moves from MTV’s UK and Northern European division, where he was financial controller.

Thames Water has ended its five-month search for a finance director with the appointment of Chris Bunker, formerly FD at Tarmac. He replaces FD David Luffrum who had held the position since 1987, and earned £203,000 last year.

Tim Buff is moving from the FD role at QA Group to become managing director at Content Master Ltd, a company founded last year to produce IT training material.

The finance director of online bank Egg, Bob Head, has been poached to become chief executive at Smile, the Co-Op’s Internet bank. Head was one of the original management team that launched Egg.

Punter Southall has taken on its first ever group finance director with the appointment of Peter Aves. Chartered accountant Aves moves from Marakon Associates, where he was director of finance and planning.

Nick Fisk has been appointed finance director for Yorkshire Electricity’s supply business. He moves from National Power, where he was head of finance in its international division. He has also acted as secretary to the Hundred Group of Finance Directors.

Finally, any FDs with a desire to shake off a stuffy image are advised to keep half an eye on proceedings at dance club group, Ministry of Sound. The company is planning to float and has appointed a headhunting firm to look for a finance director. A working knowledge of e-business is probably not necessary.
