A unique “board meeting” of UK plc is taking place on 10 June, and readers of Financial Director are invited to attend and put questions to the “directors”. The event, which is being organised and co-sponsored by PeopleSoft, will be a discussion forum at which business leaders can air their views on the challenges facing British industry over the next three years. Chairman of the board will be Sir John Banham, who will discuss the trends that he believes are driving stakeholder value. Sir John is chairman of Tarmac and Kingfisher, and is a former director-general of the CBI. The finance director will be Ian Harrison, an independent consultant and former financial controller and company secretary at Courtaulds, and one-time FD at Unilever South Africa. He will look at the factors driving financial prosperity and how the finance function can add more value. Charles Dunstone, founder and managing director of The Carphone Warehouse, will act as UK plc’s operations director, and will examine the steps necessary to attract, retain and grow customers in the future. Human resource issues such as changing demographics, compensation and lifestyle will be aired by HR director Rhiannon Chapman, founder of Plaudit and former chief executive of The Industrial Society. The IT director will be Mark Nittler, vice president, application strategy, at PeopleSoft. Nittler will look at how technology can help his fellow board members achieve their objectives. The event will be hosted by Andrew Sawers, editor of Financial Director. Attendance at the event, to be held at the Royal Society of Arts in London, is free, but to reserve a place or to send a question in advance, please phone 0118 974 9510 or e-mail [email protected].
