EXTRAORDINARY ITEMS - Never let the truth get in the way of a good

Maybe we should have sent a copy of last month’s special issue, Financial Millennium: The Financial Director Yearbook 1999 to the people who run the Greenwich2000 website (https://greenwich2000.co.uk). “The new millennium starts in Greenwich, England” claims the opening page, completely ignoring our riposte to Peter Mandelson who made a similar comment some months ago: the millennium will start, of course, at the International Date Line, 12 hours before Greenwhich sees it. But the web page adds a dash of pedantry of its own, reminding readers that the millennium officially starts on 1 January 2001. It adds, helpfully: “The computers crash and celebrations begin 1 January 2000.” Sounds like a great party. Can’t wait. ?:
