    If BP's merger with US group Amoco goes ahead, then Britain's biggest company will have an FD who is not a qualified accountant. BP's CFO John Buchanan (above) is expected to be the finance chief of the merged group.

    Amoco’s CFO, John Carl, recently told sister title Accountancy Age that he intends to leave. BP’s post-merger market value will soar from £50bn to £80bn, overtaking Glaxo Wellcome at £67bn, whose FD John Coombe is a chartered accountant and a fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
