Appointment at the Government.
Lord Simon of Highbury, a former finance director of BP, has resigned his post as Trade Minister after the recent government reshuffle. He has been linked in newspaper reports with the position of head of a group of ‘wise men’ who will advise EC president Romano Prodi on reforms to the EU. His tenure as minister cost him a reported £1m, after he was advised to sell his BP shares following his appointment.
