Presenting a true and fair view
Truth and fairness, a key concept for accountants, doesn’t seem to spread very far elsewhere in the business world. Take a recent pronouncement from property advisers Debenham Thorpe on the exciting subject of factory outlet centres – those shopping malls constructed specially to sell the seconds and cast-offs which can’t be sold in High Street shops.
“Factory outlets are set to play an increasingly significant role in the retail distribution market”, their report burbled. And yet, a page or two on, at the end of the release, came the truth: “If current planning policy continues to be applied it is unlikely that many further major proposals will receive planning permission.”
