As early as Tuesday some pundits are predicting 48 letters of no-confidence in Theresa May will have been sent- leading to a challenge to the Prime Minister’s leadership.

It would be the start to another dramatic week to match the last that featured key cabinet members departing.

In addition, a group of five ministers in Theresa May’s top team are thought to be hoping to persuade her to make changes to her draft Brexit deal.

All these developments are unsettling for the economy, as a potential three way set of proposals seems possible, a no-deal Brexit, the version May agreed with the EU or a no-Brexit that would probably include a second referendum.

The weekend offered a brief moment of respite, but the cut and thrust will start again shortly- in all this, businesses still need to plan for the future- whatever the outcome, a point not lost on finance directors.
