Greenpeace activists have halted the progress of an oil rig destined for BP’s North Sea exploration program off the coast of Scotland, demanding the oil giant immediately end drilling new wells and invest only in renewable energy or shut its operations and return cash to investors.

Last year BP’s CFO Brian Gilvary told Financial Director the idea of the planet being seriously imperiled by climate change was “scare tactics”.
