News that Amazon is seeking to develop more warehouses and its European HQ – creating more than 2,500 jobs in the UK this year- sounds like a positive boost for Britain.

The tech giant is looking for speech science and machine learning experts to help it develop its smart speakers and the Alexa personal assistant- which is encouraging as the UK faces up to a post-Brexit future.

Its certainly profitable for warehouse provider Segro- whose CFO Soumen Das reveals the importance of Amazon and other e-commerce players to its growth story (see below).

But if it is going to be an asset to Britain, Amazon needs to be a positive contributor to our society- paying its taxes in full, paying its warehouse staff properly and developing technologies that are not harmful to our citizens.
