Harrisons and Blue Gate Capital administrators called to personal injury specialist firm

HARRISONS administrators have been called to collapsed legal firm Calibre Solicitors.

Tony Murphy, (pictured) director at Harrisons Business Recovery’s London arm, and Gregory Mullarkey, director at Blue Gate Capital, have been appointed administrators of Calibre Solicitors which trades as Legal Gateway.

The Manchester-based legal practice employed 14 people and specialised in personal injury claims. Changes to funding of this type of litigation, under the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offender Bill – which is essentially a crack down on no-win no-fee cases – and poor trading has led to the firm’s collapse.

As a result of the administration process, Wake Smith LLP, a Sheffield-based law firm, has been appointed by the administrators to ensure that all client files are protected and, where possible, transferred over to them. Wake Smith has been carrying out personal injury work for a number of years.

“It was not feasible for the administrators to continue to trade the business,” said Tony Murphy. “Regrettably, this has resulted in the closure of the practice and the redundancy of the company’s employees. Our top priority is to ensure that the affairs of the clients are dealt with properly and promptly.”
